Case Study #1 - A Tube Mill company was having issues with their Cold Saw Department. They were experiencing:
- Low Output
- High Machine Costs
- Blades Dulling Quickly
- Poor Cut Quality
Our trained staff traveled to this location and observed their routines. We listened to the operators of the saws, sat with management and asked what their expectations are, and talked with maintenance about the machine. Phillips Saw & Tool had several options for this customer to look over. These are a few of the implementations that were made.
- Train machine operators about proper tool handling
- Use Phillips Saw & Tool Cold Saw Sharpening program
- Coolant Management
- Re-Coating Program – PVD Coating
The most dramatic change made was designing a Cold Saw Blade that could give this company the production output they wanted. The blade that was developed has brought the SFPM speed of the blade into ranges thought at one time not to be possible. We are now taking this knowledge we have learned in this one particular Tube Mill to all of our Cold Saw Blade users.
Our Cold Saw Blades are so revolutionary, one customer has reduced his inventory of Carbide Tipped blades on their Oto-Mills flying cut-off saw.
Case Study #2 - Our own Pallet Dismantling customers were having problems with their circular Nail Cutting Carbide Tipped Blades getting Hot. Heat will make any tool fail! We were seeing many plates cracking and needing to be disposed of. Our customers needed a better product. With the help of our design department and knowing our own capabilities, we set out on solving a local problem.
- We visited with plate manufacturers to see what could be done on their end to help with the cracking problem.
- Carbide Teeth manufacturers where also brought into the discussion. Phillips Saw & Tool needed a grade of Carbide Teeth that would be successful in cutting nails without prematurely breaking.
Along with changes in number of teeth on the blade, minor plate changes and a very successful carbide grade, we developed a series of Nail Cutting Saw Blades we now call the “Talon”. This very local problem as resulted in a national ad campaign to help distribute our “Talon” Nail Cutting Saw Blades.
Case Study #3 - A Custom Cabinet and Counter Tops manufacturer came to Phillips Saw & Tool with questions about cutting Solid Surface on his Holzma Panel Saw. They needed a surface finish better than any saw blade could give them.
With the help of our design department and knowing our own capabilities, we felt very confident we could solve their problem. There are minor adjustments that a Skilled Saw Technician can make on a blade to make dramatic changes.
- Changes were made with the Radial & Tangential Teeth Clearances.
- Using very fine diamond wheels to “Hone” the carbide teeth.
That shop is now using Phillips Saw & Tool exclusively for all their tooling purchases and also believes in our sharpening program
“Maintaining thru Re-Manufacturing”.
The Phillips Saw Blade and Maintenance Programs have exceeded ALL expectations. |
